ASUS laptop overheated and won t turn on

The laptops CPU and GPU temperature rises above 90 degrees.

When operating the laptop, a loud fan noise could mean that the cooling fan is blocked by dust. Ensure the power is off on the laptop and the charging cable is disconnected. To clean the laptop fan, follow this guide.

Heating could be caused by old metal pasting on the laptop. Ensure the power is off on the laptop before dissasembly. To dissassemble the laptop, follow this guide. To replace the old paste on the latop with newer paste, follow this guide.

A windows program that is meant to update the windows system that not working correctly could use up to 50% of your Ram and CPU. You can identify this by going into the Windows Task Manager and verifying amount of memory it is using. To fix this issue, follow this guide.

The laptop freezes or shows a blue screen even when you are not running any programs.

If the laptop crashes frequently during non-strenous situations. It may be the programs and applications installed on to the latop. In this case try downgrading your graphics driver to 388.43 and installing chipset driver, Intel IMEI driver and ATK-Pack for your specific latop model provided by ASUS. After these process, reboot the laptop. In this case;

• Uninstall ASUS Gaming Center and ATK-Pack [reboot required]
• Download these systems from Asus-site:
  1. ATK-Pack
  2. Gaming Center
  3. Chipset driver
  4. Intel Management driver [IMEI] Power regulation
  5. Bios [had 306, newest version 310 in Bios updater shown, download via updater from the net]
  6. Bios updater
• Download from nvidia:
  1. Driver 388.43
• then:
  1. Downgrade Graphics driver to 388.43 [had youtube graphic fragments with latest]
  2. Flash BIOS via "WinFlash" while Laptop is on the mains [reboot required] [see below on how to download Flash Bios via WinFlash]
  3. Install chipset driver [reboot required]
  4. Install Intel IMEI driver [reboot required]
  5. Install ATK-Pack [reboot required]
  6. Install Gaming center and set profiles [no Memory clearing activated] [reboot required]

In some windows model and updates, the screen would turn blue and read STOP error. In this case follow this guide.

After pressing the power button, the laptop remains unpowered.

"Power light is ON" means the power cord and AC adapter are working, but the device fails to boot due to dysfunction of other major components.

a. Please remove Li-ion battery and directly use the AC adapter to charge the device.

b. Please remove all portable external devices, such as USB devices, memory card, internet cable, HDMI, CD-ROM , etc.

c. Before the dysfunction occurred, did you try expanding the hard drive or memory partition? If yes, please remove these expansions.

d. Please disconnect the ac adapter, then press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds

e. Please re-install the battery and restart the unit.

"Power light is OFF" means there's no power supplied by the ac adapter or major components might be abnormally working and the device fails to boot

a. Please remove the battery [for removable battery models] and check if the ac adapter plug is loose [marked in the below image: A-power cord plug, B- outlet side plug, C- NB side plug] or try plugging into different outlets.

b. Please check for any damage on the ac adapter cable. If any damage is found, try another ac adapter.

c. Please press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds, then re-install the battery [for removable battery models] or connect the ac adapter [for non-removable battery models] and try to restart your device.

Even when the laptop is plugged in with a charger, the battery status consistenly shows Plugged in, not charging.

Shut down your laptop and unplug the AC adapter. Take the battery out and plug the AC adapter back in. Then turn the laptop back on [operating system [OS] should boot], and once logged in, shut down the computer normally. Once off, unplug the AC adapter, replace the battery, and plug in the AC adapter. Turn on the computer once more allowing the OS to boot.

Test to verify the AC adapter is not bad. Remove the battery and check if the laptop will run solely from the laptop AC adapter. If the laptop does not work, then the AC adapter is bad and needs to be replaced.

Try charging the laptop battery with the laptop turned off. If the battery charges while the computer is off, then the laptop AC adapter is bad and needs to be replaced.

You may have a bad motherboard if your new and your old laptop battery won't charge and the laptop AC adapter is working properly. Also, if your laptop battery will charge in another laptop, then that could be a sign that you have a bad motherboard. The problem may be with the computer BIOS and an update is required for the laptop to recognize and fully charge the laptop battery. The current software in your system is only set up to read an OEM [Original Equipment Manufacturer] battery.

Check Asuss website for possible system BIOS upgrades for your laptop model. Some laptops have been prone to reject third party batteries if they have an old BIOS version installed. Once completing the BIOS upgrade, please recharge your battery for 12 hours and use as normal.

Your computer is missing or has broken keyboard blocks or keyboard blocks are not responding to inputs.

Missing or broken keyboard blocks can easily be replaced. You can order a replacement keyboard block from this website. After you receive the replacement parts, follow this guide to switch your missing/broken keyboard to a new one.
