So, I don't know much information about my laptop other than it's a HP windows 10, but everyone once in a while my computer will say locking with a blue background (as show the in the image, but that's just a remake so it looks a bit different.) then it'll shut down. After I wait a little bit, for my power button to stop glowing, then I can turn it back on, and all my progress will be saved. But it can be a big inconvenience, especially when I'm playing video games. I've tried to do some research, but to no luck. Did anyone else have the same problem, and did you find a fix? It's been happening for a while, and it used to only happen once per restart, but like today, it happens 3 or 4 times. Any help would be great.

Hi,

This is very annoying in the middle of lessons with students,  my laptop will suddenly display a "Locking..."  message on the screen and then will suddeny log off and switch off the machine.  It takes minutes for it to boot up again and it happens about three or four times a day. I hope I am doing the right thing by sharing the "Speccy" published file link?  Here it is below,

I hope this can be solved as it is ruining my student's confidence in my lessons.....any help much appreciated....

Joe.

At school, firewall blocking speccy link.  Desktop or laptop?  I ask because if it's a laptop, is it getting hot during active sessions?  If getting too hot, add external usb cooling assembly (one giant fan or twin fans).  Heat can lead to sudden shutdowns.

Re-reading, the phrase "locking..." has me wondering if a 3rd party security or monitoring program is aggressively protecting your computer?

the symptoms you are describing are normally the result of a dead/discharged battery

I totally forgot that cause, Mikey11, if he also has an ac adapter plugged in, that can still happen because a dead/discharged (not being charged by the ac adapter) battery?  As a substitute teacher, I have run into non-working ac outletds, meaning my ac adapter was dead, not charging the laptop battery, only my BatteryBar gave me warning enough to find another working outlet - before laptop would suddenly shutdown without warning.

Thanks for the replies,  I also get a warning about my battery needing replacing when my laptop is booting,  but I assumed that if I had my AC plugged in, it would still work ..?  Can I remove the dead battery and just run my HP Laptop off AC power?

Thank you.

"Can I remove the dead battery and just run my HP Laptop off AC power?"  I believe you most certainly can.  However, I hope you have an UPS,  because now, just like any desktop, if the power has suddenly any brown-outs, black-outs, even just for a second, you could lose whatever data existed only in RAM, that which was not saved to the hard-drive prior to any power problem.

Get an UPS with AVR -- $ involved, but it sure will pay off in the long run!  TrippLite or APC or any well-respected brand is ok.
