Computer Shows a Black Screen on Startup

After turning on the computer, the screen is stuck on a black screen before reaching the desktop.

Broken Graphics Card Driver

Press the power button at the black screen until your computer turns off. Hold the shift and F8 keys and then press the power button again. Hold shift and F8 until the screen displays "Please Wait". You should see a recovery screen. If you see a black screen again, retry these steps.

From the recovery screen, select See advanced repair options, then Troubleshoot, Startup Settings, and Restart. Your computer should now reboot to the Startup Settings screen. Select "Enable Safe Mode." It will reboot and allow you to log into Safe Mode.

Open the start menu and search "Device Manager." Expand the "Display adapters" tab and right-click on your graphics card. Select "Uninstall" and follow the prompts to complete the uninstall. Restart your PC and attempt to log in normally. If your machine continues to display a black screen, the hard drive may need to be [invalid guide link].

Computer Fails to Turn On

The computer refuses to start or turn on.

Inspect AC Adapter

Inspect the adapter for the computer, and ensure that the cord is not damaged or destroyed. If this is the case, please seek a replacement for the adapter as whole. If the cord is not damaged, then reinsert it into the charge port, and remove any other physical connections with the computer. Also, be sure that the AC adapter is connected directly with the wall socket, and not running through any surge protectors or extension cords. If necessary, try and use another device from the same power source, to be sure that the socket is providing power.

Reset attempt

Disconnect the computer from the charger, and remove the battery. Proceed, with battery and connector still out, to press the ON button for 5 seconds. Reinstall the battery, and attempt to turn on. Connect the charger, and attempt to turn on the computer. Computer Does Not Hold Charge

Computer fails to hold charge for long periods, or must be plugged in at all times.

Heavy Usage of Computer

Be sure that you are not demanding too much of your computer or system at one time. The projection of battery life is directly dependent on the amount of energy the system thinks it will need for the task at hand. Therefore, make sure you are not running too many system-intensive tasks at the same time. You may also turn off the Bluetooth setting, if not being used, or turn down the screen brightness to improve battery life. Finally, you may access the power management settings and change them to whatever settings will help with the battery.

Battery is Not Properly Connected

Ensure that the battery is properly connected and placed in the computer. To make sure of this, merely remove the battery, when the computer is not on, and then place it back into its place. This will fix the issue if the battery somehow had become disconnected from the rest of the system. Computer Has Ran out of RAM

Open Start on your laptop [the Windows logo on the bottom right of your screen]. Open Settings [the gear shaped icon]. Click system [the laptop-shaped icon]. Click the About tab in the lower left corner. Review the "Installed RAM" section and note how much RAM your PC has installed. Now press Ctrl+Alt+Del to open task manager. Click the Performance tab to view how much memory your PC is using. Reinstalling your audio driver

Test the audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the laptop can not recognize the headphone when plugged in. You will then need to reinstall your audio driver. Make sure the audio jack is fully inserted in the laptop. If the audio is only distorted while listening on the headphone, the audio jack or the headphones may be broken. This will warrant a replacement.
