Mother’s Day in Canada is observed each year on the second Sunday in May. It is not a public holiday, but it is widely celebrated across the country by the majority of the population.

Although Mother’s Day began in the US, id would be easy to believe it had begun in Canada. Here, Mother’s Day is a huge celebration, a kind of a “second Christmas”.
On Mother’s Day, greeting card sales hit annual records, as does telephone traffic as millions of people call up Mom to tell her how much they love her. Road traffic is also high since many travel to Mom’s house to visit and spend the day with her.
Gift giving, flower bouquets, baking one’s mother a cake, and taking mother out for dinner are all popular ways to celebrate. Children letting their mother take the day off by doing all the house work is also a trending way to honour Mom on Mother’s Day.
