Porsche Macan 2023 changes

Chris Teague | Oct 30, 2022

Porsche is an iconic brand with lust-worthy sports cars and SUVs in several segments. The German automaker is moving toward electrification with the Taycan all-electric vehicle, hybrid variants of the Cayenne, and an expected move of the Macan SUV to electric power in the next few years. In the meantime, the company’s models roll into 2023 with modest changes. Still, most enter the new year with refinements to keep them atop their respective segments in luxury, performance, and exclusivity.

2023 Porsche SUV Updates: Year of the Macan

Macan and Cayenne SUVs each see upgrades, but Porsche's next big thing might be a small EV SUV.

Porsche SUVs get the same love the brand's sports cars do for being some of the most fun to drive vehicles around, and the automaker has made a few changes this year. For 2023, the Macan T hits the market as a lower-cost athletic variant of the small crossover, and an EV version of the small ute is due soon, as well. The rest of the range also gets technology and styling updates, and the Cayenne picks up a new exterior shade.

Here's what's new and different with every 2023 Porsche SUV.

2023 Porsche Macan: What’s New

Porsche adds the Macan T to the 2023 lineup, with the "T" standing for Touring. It's a sporty and relatively budget-friendly treatment that's been used on other models, but this is the first time it's been offered on the brand's entry-level SUV. Each one is equipped with the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine making 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. Going with the turbo-four and not the V-6 saves 129 pounds, which also helps with fuel economy.

The 2023 Macan T gets a specially tuned active suspension system and stabilizer bars, and a torque-vectoring "Plus" feature is optional. Additional features include 20-inch dark titanium wheels and an available trim-specific Agate Grey Metallic exterior color, which comes with contrasting gloss black accents and an all-black interior with silver stitching and retro striped cloth seat inserts. The Sport Chrono package is also included, adding a dash clock and a steering-wheel-mounted drive mode switch with boost-adding Sport Response button.

In other 2023 Macan news, adaptive cruise control with automatic emergency braking is newly standard across the lineup. An exterior package in Satin Black is available for the 2023 Macan GTS, and optional Copper Ruby Metallic replaces Mahogany Metallic exterior color. Inside, Chalk and Carmine Red are new to the GTS interior packages. Finally, Porsche is offering a new set of optional 21-inch 911 Turbo Design wheels for the 2023 Macan.

2023 Porsche Macan Pros and Cons

  • Composed at cruising speeds
  • Least expensive Porsche you can buy

Cons

  • Not much cargo space
  • Tight second row
  • Base model is a poor performance value

2023 Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe: What’s New

Chromite Black replaces Jet Black in the Cayenne's available premium exterior metallic color range, and that's the SUV's sole change for 2023. This comes after the Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe gained one update for 2022, the latest generation of Porsche's infotainment software. With improvements coming at a trickle, could the next generation be too far off? Especially with the brand adding an even larger, all-electric SUV in the not-so-distant future?

2023 Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Great driving dynamics
  • Capable off road
  • Excellent comfort

Cons

  • Can get expensive
  • Less cargo space than rivals

2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo: What’s New

Porsche splits its updates for the 2023 Taycan Cross Turismo into two groups. On the hardware side, all models get the brand's Variable Light Control glass roof and new 19-inch Taycan S Aero wheels. Pre-wiring for optional front and rear dash cameras is also new hardware.

On the software side, the Taycan's PCM infotainment system gets yet another update (it was just revised for 2022). Upgrades include a more colorful user interface, wireless Android Auto compatibility, improved Voice Pilot voice activation, and a Charging Planner with improved routing.

2023 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Sleek wagon body
  • Off-road chops
  • Proper fun behind the wheel

Cons

  • Starts off expensive
  • Range trails competitors

On the Way: 2024 Porsche Macan EV

The wait ends in 2023 for a second-generation Macan, Porsche's next all-electric vehicle after the Taycan. The EV version of the popular small SUV rides on a new platform shared with future Audi and Bentley electric models, and for an indeterminate time the Macan EV will be sold alongside first-generation gas Macans.

With the new platform, the Macan EV should be able to use 350-kW fast chargers, and we expect the U.S. version of the crossover to come with the largest battery spec available, as well as AWD and satisfying driving dynamics. Porsche has said it will at least clear the 227 miles of range presently offered by the Taycan, and the two are also expected to share design language. The 2024 Macan EV goes on sale in 2023, but it might have an alternate designation; rumors suggesting that Porsche is considering a different vehicle name in order to avoid customer confusion.

The Macan is one of the most usable and fun sports SUVs on the market.
