I own an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop and it recently shocked me when i touched the touchpad. Not thinking too much of it I turned it off and went about my day. Now it won't turn on at all or respond to anything I do. When I plug in the power cord, the led on the power brick begins rapidly flashing. Any idea what's causing this? Is it a short? TIA!

You may have damaged something with the shock. Static is one of the harshest things with the electronics in these computers. You can try taking the battery out and resetting the CMOS. May or may not work.

Hate to say this, but sounds like a mobo issue. Have you tried removing the cell battery to re-set the CMOS?

I told him to do that earlier, You may be able to save the comptuer by resetting the cmos. It's worth a try anyway.

Ive been combing through the service manual to find where the cmos battery is located and the laptop is almost completely disassembled, its nowhere to be found! Here is a link to the service manual, see if you can find it! //www.mediafire.com/?ikdodzjek5w
Is it possible for the laptop to not have a cmos battery?

Nope. The CMOS saves all of your settings andtime. Check under the keyboard.

I think I might have found it? At the top of p. 67 in the manual, it talks about removing the CMOS module from the LCD cover. Can somebody look at it and tell me if im right?

I know that mine is under one of the doors on the underside of the laptop. I have one that you can see and just pop out like a desktop and I have another that is wraped in shrink wrap and just plugs into a small socket. I'm looking at your manual right now, I will post back up when it loads.

They didn't put that in the best spot. From what I can see you have to take the case apart just to get to it. I may be wrong as the pics are not that good. Good luck to ya.

They do that on purpose... so that people don't get in there and "mess" with things. Honestly, I don't think resetting the CMOS will work. But then again, I also doubt that a static shock to the touchpad is enough to fry the entire MB. If the CMOS thing doesn't work, you might call Acer's support line, or if you have a warranty, get it fixed... if nothing else, you'll get a new MB :-D

Further since I first read thought the lack of immediate failure was unusual. I mean if a voltage/charge fried a capacitor on the MoBo it does not happen on shutdown? Or does it?
