Châu Á chỉ có 6 suất trực tiếp tham dự World Cup nữ 2023
Sáng 25-12 [theo giờ Việt Nam], Hội đồng Liên đoàn Bóng đá Thế giới [FIFA] đã đưa ra các thông báo quan trọng về lịch thi đấu các giải đấu sắp tới, bao gồm World Cup nữ và các giải đấu ở cấp độ trẻ.
Theo đó, châu Á sẽ chỉ có 6 suất trực tiếp tham dự World Cup nữ 2023 [bao gồm cả suất cho đội chủ nhà Australia] cùng 2 suất dự vòng playoff.
Với thể thức phức tạp của vòng playoff mà FIFA công bố, cơ hội đoạt vé dự World Cup nữ 2023 của đội tuyển nữ Việt Nam là rất mong manh. Tại hai kỳ World Cup nữ gần đây nhất, đội tuyển nữ Việt Nam đều lỡ hẹn ở những thời điểm quyết định, trong khi đối thủ cùng khu vực là Thái Lan đã 2 lần liên tiếp dự World Cup nữ.
Theo kế hoạch, vòng chung kết World Cup nữ 2023 dự kiến diễn ra từ 10-7 đến 20-8-2023 tại hai nước đồng chủ nhà: Australia và New Zealand.
Bên cạnh đó, do ảnh hưởng của dịch Covid-19, Hội đồng FIFA đã quyết định hủy mùa giải năm 2021 đối với hai giải đấu bóng đá nam: FIFA U20 World Cup và FIFA U17 World Cup. Kỳ tiếp theo của hai giải đấu này sẽ được tổ chức vào năm 2023 tại Indonesia và Peru.
Dịch Covid-19 tiếp tục là thách thức đối với việc tổ chức các sự kiện thể thao quốc tế. FIFA hiện đang làm việc cùng các bên liên quan, bao gồm cả các tổ chức thành viên và các nước chủ nhà, bảo đảm công tác chuẩn bị tốt nhất cho các giải đấu.

Sau hai trận đã qua của vòng play-off, hai đội tuyển Việt Nam và Đài Loan đều có được thắng lợi trước Thái Lan. Với tuyển Việt Nam là chiến thắng với tỉ số 2-0, còn Đài Loan là 3-0.
Với những kết quả này, tuyển Đài Loan đang dẫn đầu bảng khi có cùng 3 điểm với Việt Nam nhưng hơn hiệu số [+3 so với +2]. Đây là lợi thế rất lớn của tuyển Đài Loan bởi chỉ cần một trận hòa trước Việt Nam họ sẽ có được chiếc vé đến World Cup 2023.
Điều đó đồng nghĩa với việc tuyển nữ Việt Nam phải giành chiến thắng trước Đài Loan để giành vé dự World Cup 2023.
