Why does music stop playing when I lock screen?

When using any music/media app other than native ones, the app crashes when I lock screen. So far this happens on poweramp, vlc, amazon music.
This is obviously very annoying, particularly when I have paid for the premium poweramp, and when my phone is my primary music player.
This is the first time in my life I am seriously considering switching to apple as my phone is effectively useless as an mp3 player.
I have found no solutions on the Internet. Poweramp have introduced a few features to stop your phone locking, but this keeps the screen permanently on which obviously drains the battery very quickly.
What else is infuriating is that there is apparently no way whatsoever to contact Google directly about android products. Wtf?
As I said, android 9 phones seem useless as an mp3 player.
Is this issue going to be resolved or should I just get an old iPhone 8 or something?

I've checked background restrictions and individual app settings and battery settings countless times. I've tried disabling all battery saving features and different launchers, loads of different media players, and the only way to listen to music with the screen locked is with the native woeful music player.
And I'm not the only one experiencing this, as I said in the new beta version of poweramp they have included settings specifically addressing this specific problem, but they just stop the phone from unlocking which keeps the screen on and decimates the battery.
I'm all the forums I've read where this problem is talked about I am yet to find a solution, but at least they are talking about the issue. The fact that here on Google its being denied the problem even exists makes me think there won't be an update to fix it anytime soon

Hi. I had the same issue. Realised I had data saver switched on. I added Amazon Music to the exceptions list and now it's working fine from lock screen as well.. simple:]

Hi Ashley - I have no such issues with music apps continuing to play while my screen is locked. I would recommend checking if you have background restrictions in place for your media apps.

Same problem here, but only with Amazon Music.
I've also tried all the tips I've found online and nothing has worked: background restrictions, battery settings, cache memory, app settings, reinstalled the app, etc etc etc. Getting super frustrated as I also paid for Amazon Prime so that I could have music. The app was working fine up until a week ago.
Please any help or tips?

Hi I just fixed this. I went to background app management and turned on all and then off and it started working. Now I restricted the apps that were restricted before and it still works.
