2023 Ford Super Duty F-350 Lariat

Ford revealed the latest generation of their mighty Super Duty truck lineup. The notable upgrades include a new engine option, all the tech one can ask for in a truck, as well as some features designed to make working out of your new Super Duty a little more comfortable. It's worth noting that holding the press conference at the home of the Kentucky Derby is no accident. Ford has invested deeply into their Kentucky plant for new Super Duty production, so much so that Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear declared September 27th, 2022 as KenTRUCKy day.

The Super Duty nameplate has been around since 1998, when Ford decided to redesign and rename their 3/4 ton and up trucks to be significantly different from their 1/2 ton counterparts. Since then, there have been many improvements, many engine options, as well as numerous comfort features added to one of America's favorite trucks.

The 2023 Ford Super Duty Is Loaded With Tech And Comfort

As Ford has evolved the Super Duty line, it's become a chameleon of sorts. When you opt for a base model trim, an F-550 XL for example, the truck is utilitarian. You've got basic cloth upholstery, vinyl floor options, up-fitter switches for accessories, everything needed for a medium duty service truck. Combine these features with the bulletproof underpinnings, and it's no wonder these are some of the most common vehicles you'll run across on a jobsite.

Interestingly enough, the work truck can also evolve into a large luxury vehicle that can hold its own in comparison to high-end cars and SUVs from other countries. When you spec a Limited trim level F-350, you're getting fine leather wrapped interiors, a large touch screen, and most everything you'd expect to find in a luxury vehicle of this price range. The main difference (other than sheer size) is that you can tow significantly more with your F-350 than say, a Range Rover.

There is a long list of features that make the 2023 Super Duty a functional and comfortable place to be. At the top of the tech list is Ford's new 5G capability on board, this makes over the air updates, faster mapping, on board wifi, and real time updates to navigation a breeze. For buyers that are up-fitting accessories, the new Ford Pro up-fitter system promises advanced digital integration of up-fitter accessories such as cranes or plows, allowing these items to be controlled on the touchscreen. There's also an onboard scale system that guesses the weight of your trailer to make sure It's not only the correct weight, but also to help level the tongue weight, making for a safer towing experience.

Wait, The New Super Duty Has Even More Tech

We could go on and on here with the new and updated features on the 2023 Super Duty trucks. Let's try to nail down a few more features that stand out. Like the Pro Power Onboard system. First featured in the F-150 Powerboost models, these onboard generators have become internet famous, with buyers powering all kinds of things from them, including their houses.

Another game changer on the Super Duty, a simple solution to a problem almost anyone with a newer truck has run into. The tailgate down camera and sensor system ensures that you can safely back your new Super Duty up, even when the tailgate is down. Thanks in part to that onboard 5G service, Ford is also introducing a trailer specific navigation feature that allows you to enter the dimensions of your trailer, the truck will use real time data to steer you clear of low bridges and turns that are too tight.

The 2023 Super Duty Has Big Power Inside

Not only is the interior of the new 2023 Super Duty built for work, so is the drivetrain. These trucks have long been known for their incredible payload and towing capacity. The 2023 model certainly will not be the exception to this rule. For starters, they're bringing back the beloved 7.3l "Godzilla" engine, one of the most potent gasoline powered engines to come around in modern trucks. Sure, there's also a new smaller gas engine, a 6.8 liter V8 that is surely an upgrade over the old 6.2-liter. But if you're looking to tow with these trucks, let's face it, you're looking for the biggest baddest power plant they'll sell you.

Naturally, the next option is the tried and true 6.7 liter Powerstroke V8 Diesel. Ford hasn't release power figures on the 2023 models yet. It's safe to say that the new truck should make at least as much as the outgoing 2022 model, which came with a massive 475hp and 1,050 lb-ft. of torque. That's enough to give a Powerstroke equipped F-350 a lofty 37,000lb gooseneck trailer tow rating. If that isn't enough towing capacity for your job, Ford has another thing coming for you. The 2023 Super Duty will also have an optional new "high-output" 6.7 liter Powerstroke Diesel, with a new turbo design, specific exhaust manifolds, and tuning that's targeting best in class numbers.
