How do you mass select on Google Slides?

If you have a long Google Slides presentation, you may not want to assign the whole thing to students. For example, if you use the monthly writing prompts from the Lucky Little Toolkit, there are prompts for the whole year. You may just want to choose one, a few for (choice), or one month’s worth of slides to assign to your students. Read on to find out how to assign only one or a few slides in Google Slides.

Assign One Slide from Google Slides

If you want your students to just focus on a particular writing prompt, for example, or complete a page of practice in a math lesson, you may want to assign just one slide to Google Classroom, Seesaw, or whatever learning platform you choose. To assign just one slide to your students follow these simple steps:

  • Find the page you want on the sidebar
  • Select File, Make a Copy
  • Choose “Selected Slides”
  • Name your file (it will save to your Google Drive
  • Assign the slide via Google Classroom by selecting the file within Classroom or sharing the link. You may also do this in Seesaw or another learning platform

Assign a Few Isolated Slides from Google Slides

Assigning multiple slides is also an option with Google Slides. You may choose this option for your students when you would like to give them a choice in writing prompts or assignments. Also, this is a good way to give additional opportunities for practicing the same or different concepts in a unit within one assignment. The slides can be in a different places in your presentation, but it’s simple to select and assign them with these steps:

  • Find the pages you want on the sidebar
  • Hold down Command and click on the slides you’d like to select multiple slides
  • Select File, Make a Copy
  • Choose “Selected Slides”
  • Name your file (it will save to your Google Drive)
  • Assign the slide via Google Classroom by selecting the file within Classroom or sharing the link. You may also do this in Seesaw or another learning platform.

Assign a Group of Slides from Google Slides

Many of your learners may work at their own pace. Assigning a group or longer unit of Google Slides is also great for review, differentiation, extension/independent learning, or just to allow your students to work on a week’s worth (or longer) of content on the same presentation.

This is an excellent strategy if you want students to have access to materials and notes to review in the same presentation. Here’s how it works:

  • Find the page(s) you want on the sidebar
  • Hold down shift and click on the first slide you want to select
  • Continue to select the slides you want while keeping shift pressed. Click on the last slide you want to copy
  • Select File, Make a Copy
  • Choose “Selected Slides”
  • Name your file (it will save to your Google Drive)
  • Assign the slide via Google Classroom by selecting the file within Classroom or sharing the link. You may also do this in Seesaw or another learning platform.

The opportunities to assign one or multiple slides in Google Slides to your students are endless. These simple methods will have your students working on high quality assignments like those from the Lucky Little Toolkit in no time.

How do you mass select on Google Slides?

This has been asked and answered before, but the answers are for the old interface (predating Google Drive), so I'm asking again.

I have about a hundred docs in my Google Docs view, most of which are junk -- they were apparently shared by some other user, and I really don't want them. The only way I can see to remove them is one at a time, which takes maybe 10-15s each. That's an experience I'm not interested in having.

I really only want to keep a handful of the documents, and I'd even be able to live with it if they had to go, too, but I'm finding Docs to be pretty useless with all the noise.

Edit:

Please stop trying to "solve" this problem for me on Google Drive. It's not a problem with Google Drive, and the files in question don't show up there at all. The problem is with Google Docs (http://docs.google.com/). There's no "inbox", there's no opportunity to "select" multiple files. The only controls are a little "hamburger" menu that lets me view "Docs", "Sheets", or "Slides", open a Settings page, get Help, or visit Drive, and some icons to switch between tiled and list views, change the sort order, or open the file picker, and an icon to create a new file.
