Ponds acne clear facial foam review

My skin is acne prone, so I think most of my effort on my skin has been about fighting acne. Until around the middle of last year, I still struggled with pimples. I constantly had more than five active pimples on my face, not including those that were healing and those that were just about to surface. My boyfriend once counted them all and there were like more than 20. Totally not fun. Some products help a lot, especially those with BHA. But the one product that really completes the routine, manages to clear up my skin and helps it to stay that way is this: Pond’s Acne Solution.

You may know that there are generally two types of acne: noninflammatory and inflammatory acne. While I also had noninflammatory acne, most of them were inflammatory, more specifically cystic acne. I’ve always considered cystic acne as more severe and harder to get rid of compared to noninflammatory acne, so I didn’t expect the solution to be as simple as changing my cleanser. More specifically, I certainly didn’t expect that a drugstore cleanser could clear up my skin. While they can be nice and effective in removing dirt or even trace of makeup, I just didn’t buy any further benefits that they claim to have, whether it’s whitening, pore-reducing, acne-clearing, etc. In my mind it was more like, oh I should try this serum, that essence, this spot treatment, that mask – all those extra products that would’ve cost me a lot. Funny enough, fortunately I didn’t actually get them because I was on such tight budget.

One of my favorite beauty YouTuber, Suhay Salim, mentioned this Pond’s Acne Solution repeatedly in her videos. She said that it was one of her go-to cleanser every time she breaks out. I was skeptical for sure, but I was more desperate. Desperation won, so I got the cleanser. And it was surprisingly the best, life-changing decision that I made.

Packaging

Nothing special about the packing; white, plastic tube with simple design on the front, and print of description, claim, direction, ingredients list, and other information on the back. The one I have right now is 100 grams and it costs around IDR 24,000 but they do have smaller packaging. It’s secured with flip-top cap.

Appearance and Smell

The product is white and creamy, and it lathers like usual drugstore facial foam. It has a clinical but nice scent, not perfumey and not overpowering. Still, I was used to gentle, almost scentless facial foam that minimally lathers, so trying this facial foam for the first time was almost intimidating, lol but I am used to it now.

Performance

For the record I never use this as my only cleanser. Even if I just stay at home and do not use makeup, I always clean my face with micellar water first before using this facial foam. Nonetheless, this facial foam was like the missing piece of puzzle in my skincare routine. Once I started using this, my skin significantly cleared up. The result was noticeable within the first few weeks. While the other products work to calm my skin down, unclog my pores, and strengthen my skin barrier, this facial foam seems to somehow speed up the acne healing process and more importantly prevent it from reoccurring. I still have pimples from time to time now, but nothing like I used to. I may have one or two when I haven’t washed my makeup brushes for awhile or around my period due to hormonal reason but other than that, my face has been generally clear from acne. My boyfriend even asked me if I was getting happier and less stressed, hence the fewer pimples, lol. The only problem I have with this facial foam is it does make my skin feels a bit drier afterwards, but still in a manageable way. I actually wouldn’t even call it a problem because I only need to use toner immediately after washing my face and patting it dry, which has always been my habit anyway. I use toner with BHA and sunblock (I use Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk) or sleeping mask (I use Laneige Water Sleeping Mask), and those steps do the job just perfectly. Another thing that might be important to note is that I still deep cleanse my face regularly – once or twice a week – using clay mask, meaning I don’t count on this facial foam to do the deep cleansing. But, I only started this habit of using clay mask like six months ago; before that, I just cleansed my face using first and second daily cleansers and yet my skin was clear, so in terms of solving my acne problem, I won’t give as much credit to the clay mask as I do to this facial foam and my BHA toner.

Conclusion

It’s drugstore, it’s cheap, it’s everywhere, and most importantly, it works. Personally, I will keep using it and hope, from the very bottom of my heart, that Pond’s will never screw the formula up or decide to discontinue it someday (if that ever happens, I will definitely stock up).
