I own an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop and it recently shocked me when i touched the touchpad. Not thinking too much of it I turned it off and went about my day. Now it won't turn on at all or respond to anything I do. When I plug in the power cord, the led on the power brick begins rapidly flashing. Any idea what's causing this? Is it a short? TIA! You may have damaged something with the shock. Static is one of the harshest things with the electronics in these computers. You can try taking the battery out and resetting the CMOS. May or may not work. Save Share Reply Dooglas·RegisteredJoined Aug 31, 2007 ·252 Posts Discussion Starter · #5 · Feb 10, 2009

Haha im ahead of you guys, i went to microcenter and they used a brand new power cable, the same thing happened. Could it be a motherboard short? Save Share Reply H Hailscott·RegisteredJoined Dec 18, 2006 ·2,494 Posts #8 · Feb 10, 2009

Hate to say this, but sounds like a mobo issue. Have you tried removing the cell battery to re-set the CMOS? What not to do to your graphics card!~ The Ford Owners Club ~CPUZ Validation Save Share Reply kcklub·RegisteredJoined Jan 28, 2009 ·499 Posts #10 · Feb 10, 2009

Ive been combing through the service manual to find where the cmos battery is located and the laptop is almost completely disassembled, its nowhere to be found! Here is a link to the service manual, see if you can find it! http://www.mediafire.com/?ikdodzjek5w Is it possible for the laptop to not have a cmos battery? I think I might have found it? At the top of p. 67 in the manual, it talks about removing the CMOS module from the LCD cover. Can somebody look at it and tell me if im right? Save Share Reply T TDN1979·RegisteredJoined Dec 3, 2008 ·1,140 Posts #15 · Feb 10, 2009
I know that mine is under one of the doors on the underside of the laptop. I have one that you can see and just pop out like a desktop and I have another that is wraped in shrink wrap and just plugs into a small socket. I'm looking at your manual right now, I will post back up when it loads. Save Share Reply T TDN1979·RegisteredJoined Dec 3, 2008 ·1,140 Posts #16 · Feb 10, 2009

They didn't put that in the best spot. From what I can see you have to take the case apart just to get to it. I may be wrong as the pics are not that good. Good luck to ya. Save Share Reply PCTaylor·RegisteredJoined Feb 9, 2009 ·97 Posts #19 · Feb 13, 2009

Further since I first read thought the lack of immediate failure was unusual. I mean if a voltage/charge fried a capacitor on the MoBo it does not happen on shutdown? Or does it?
