The Best Starter Gaming/Education Laptop I Could Find

I've had my Dell Inspiron 15 5000 for a little under a year now, and while there are some complaints about it, it is still one of the best "starter" laptops I've had so far -- I'm even writing this review on mine.Overall, this laptop offers a wide array of performance as I've been able to run games like Stellaris, Ark: Survival, and Space Engineers all with fairly nominal quality, offered by the Nvidia GTX graphics card on board. The storage capabilities have not disappointed me either, as right out the box you have 1TB HDD space, and then 128 GB of SSD storage space, which helps the laptop run incredibly smooth in my experience running Windows 10. This has also served me well in doing some basic CAD for my Delta 3D Printer, though I wouldn't trust it to handle large-scale or incredibly detailed designs.Quality-wise, this laptop is rather well built in my opinion. The one-screw back access made it easy for me to install a new 8 GB RAM card, and to access the interior of the chassis to clean the fans (which can get a little loud while gaming, but aren't very distracting). I've also dropped this laptop down a flight of stairs without it's case, and besides a small chip on the bottom right corner of the keyboard panel, it still works just fine. I have rather large hands, but the corners of the chassis don't cut into my hands or my wrists, and there's plenty of space below the keyboard to rest your palms on while typing. The backlit keyboard is also a rather useful feature, as it saved my ENG102 grade whilst writing my term paper at 1:00 in the morning. The laptop itself is a little on the heavier side, as I wouldn't advise carrying it around in its case for long periods of time, but it fits well in a backpack to carry around campus, and isn't too bulky or flashy to use in public. As for my real complaints, three come to mind, both straight out of the box and after using this laptop for a few months. The battery life is incredibly short, especially when gaming as it will drain incredibly fast. I managed about an hour and a half of Rust, before getting a battery warning of 20%. This makes it difficult for gaming in a car or sitting in an airport terminal, but I've been able to handle some lighter games like Night in the Woods or Terraria just fine without having to plug in my charger. My second serious complaint comes from the trackpad; it is HORRIBLE. It often forgets where my fingers are while I'm trying to scroll, and the "clicking" element of using it is all over the place, registering as either a left or right click without me using both fingers. Granted, I've taken to using a wireless mouse in practice now, but it's cumbersome to use when sitting in a recliner or in a car, and I groan at having to use my trackpad. As another technical error, my trackpad will occasionally not register my clicks, and I'll have to ctrl+alt+delete and access my Task Manager before the trackpad will recognize my clicks again. In third, the screen on this laptop is somewhat of a let-down, being a TN Panel as opposed to an IPS. It's not too terribly distracting, but while laying in bed if I want to put my legs up, I have to fully extend my laptop to still see the screen properly.Overall, if you're looking for a decent starter laptop, with adequate gaming capabilities, but either don't have the room for a desktop setup, or the funds, the Inspiron 15 5000 won't let you down. I'd strongly recommend it for high-school or entering college students, though later on you may wish to upgrade to a better laptop, or a fully built desktop with better performance.

I had my original laptop (a Toshiba Satellite M505) since 2010 and it work well for everything I used it for. Then last month the second battery died along with the charger, so it was time to upgrade and after looking at all the options I choose the Dell Gaming laptop. I've had it for about a month now and so far, it has been a wonder to explore. The processing speed feels lightning quick compared to what I had and the quality of graphics is quite nice. I found the backlight for the keypad to be an amazing feature letting me type when its dark or hard to see well inside. I'm still learning about the other features and programs pre-installed but so far, they have shone usefulness (NVidia GeForce account, Xbox connection, Windows Defender, etc.). I should also talk about Windows 10, my original laptop started with Windows 7 and worked beautifully till they upgraded to Windows 10. It still ran well but certain programs and links to accounts simple got lost or could never connect. This laptop came with 10 so it has those bugs solved and most of the issues solved. Now for the big one: the gaming experience, was it good? Answer: yes, like I never have before! Playing on or offline, plugged-in or not gaming has never been so smooth for me. I joined steam ad installed Hollow Knight and it’s been a blast all the way. Battery life with last between 7 to 5 hours while gaming, and supposedly up to 15 hours when passive, unheard off for my previous laptop. As for the cons of this computer, not many but they are distinct. This laptop comes with a SD card slot, 3 USB ports, a LAN plug, and a HBMI port. It does have a DVD player, this can be a pro or con since there are no major moving parts inside to break or collect dust, but it means music discs ad movies will need to be on flash drives or you need to get a portable DVD player. The other major issue can be price, at 900 it can be pricey, though compared to other laptops with some of the same features it’s a good deal. So, in summary: Pros - great control, lightweight, good graphics, long battery life, useful built-in features and programs, solid-state hard drive with no moving parts, and strong compatibility with Windows 10. Cons - no DVD drive and soft keyboard along with a mid-range price tag. Overall, I have enjoyed the Dell experience and I have to say I love learning everything this computer has to offer.

I compared a bunch of different laptops suitable for gaming and work. This one was the best price for the specs I was looking for. Build quality is nice. It doesn't feel cheap. It has a matte, slightly rubbery finish which feels nice. No, the screen is not an ips panel but it still looks pretty good. I have high quality monitors for my desktop and this screen doesn't bother me a bit. It can run most of the newest games on medium settings. I get 50-60 fps on BF1 and that's without any further tweaking. I thought the red accents would turn me off but it actually looks pretty nice. Not too "loud" or bright. The fans do get a bit noisy but not too bad to where it's annoying. Overall, I would say this is a great gaming laptop in it's price range. It boots fast and runs windows applications very quickly thanks to the ssd and i7. Almost as quick as my desktop with an i7, GTX 1080, 16gb ram, etc. You really don't need more than 8gb of ram unless you are doing some serious multi tasking.

2.0 out of 5 stars No tan buena dell

Reviewed in Mexico on June 4, 2018

Is Dell Inspiron 5577 good?

This is a very sturdy and solid laptop, that is one thing I like about Dell laptops. Aside from the specs, the screen is well suited for gaming since it has a higher response rate than IPS screens.

Dell Inspiron 5577 is a Windows 10 laptop with a 15.60-inch display that has a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

Is Dell Inspiron 16 worth buying?

ZDNet's buying adviceThe Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7630 is a really good jack-of-all-trades laptop but also it's a master of none. It's good at various scenarios, however, there are certainly better specialty laptops out there.

Is Dell Inspiron a good work laptop?

Powerful laptop with good features This dell is powerful enough to handle the typical collage level computing needs (Word, Powerpoint, Surfing, Gaming) The backlit keyboard works well as you can control the level and the mousepad is responsive.
