Airbnb is a service that lets people post their homes as rentable lodgings for travelers. Whether you enjoyed a pleasurable stay or need to warn others about unacceptable accommodations, you can leave a detailed review by signing in to Airbnb.com. If you're a host that wants to leave a review for your guest, you can also leave a review using the same method.

  1. Go to https://airbnb.com in a web browser. You cannot use the mobile app to write or edit reviews, but you can log in to the website on your phone, tablet, or computer's web browser.
  2. It's at the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Type in your username and password, or if you’ve linked your Facebook account with Airbnb, click Log in with Facebook to sign in.
  4. You'll see this in the top right corner of the page. A menu will dropdown.
  5. You'll be directed to your profile page.
  6. You'll see this in the center of your profile page. After clicking this, you'll be redirected to your Reviews page, where you'll see the "Reviews About You" and "Reviews By You."
  7. After clicking this, the page will display all the past reviews you’ve written (under a "Past Reviews You've Written" header) as well as all the hosts or guests you’ve stayed with and are waiting to be reviewed (under the "Reviews to Write" header).
    • You'll also have the opportunity to edit past reviews you've written in the "Past Reviews You've Written" section.
  8. To do so, select a user profile under the "Reviews to Write" header (it can be a guest or host account that you review). Write your review in the text field provided. Press "Enter" on your keyboard to submit the review.
    • Keep in mind though that you need to complete an entire stay (from reservation to check-out) before you can write a review for it to be considered genuine and valid.

Some questions you'll want to answer in your feedback as a guest: Would you recommend the host or lodging to others? What was your experience like? Was the lodging clean when you got there?

Writing Airbnb guest reviews is your duty to the hosting community. Where would you be today if hosts before you hadn’t given your guests rave reviews—or warned you of guests that gave them problems?

As an Airbnb host, making sure that you participate in the Airbnb reviews system is critical! From check-in to check-out, you want to deliver a great guest experience. Positive reviews are the path to earning Superhost status, so participating in both sides and leaving guests reviews (hopefully a 5-star review) is a great way to boost your overall Airbnb listing and performance.

Beyond that, writing Airbnb guest reviews is simply good business. For good guests, it shows you care. For problem guests, it offers a chance to tell your side of the story. And for those in between, it’s a matter of being thorough.

But gosh, can they get exhausting. So whether you’re writing your very first review or looking for a way to make your thousandth one a little different from those before it, here are our tips for Airbnb guest reviews that are professional and impactful.

We’ve also compiled a list of Airbnb host review templates (they can be used on any short-term rental site like Vrbo as well) that you can copy + paste with a few customizations depending on how the guest was to host.

The Good

Had a guest that you hit it off with immediately? Or fuss-free guests who left your space in tip-top shape? That’s the kind of vacation rental kismet that we all hope for!

But even so, reviewing good guests can feel a bit…weird. Especially if you forged a personal connection with them while they were staying in your rental. Just how do you put a guest’s greatness into words?

Here’s what we suggest for good Airbnb guest reviews:

  1. Praise them! No need to re-invent the wheel. Keep it simple with something like “X was a pleasure to host.”
  2. Point to a specific moment. After you’ve made it clear that this is a good review, make it personal. Mention something specific that the guest did that you appreciated. Maybe they smiled and waved whenever you crossed paths. Maybe they were super responsive during the booking process. Or maybe they followed your house rules with star student gusto.
  3. Make a nod towards future bookings. Ending your review with something like “X is welcome back any time” concludes your review on a welcoming note. It also reminds your A+ guest that they have a solid option whenever they’re back in the area, planting the seed for repeat bookings.

This guest was super nice and considerate, and was an enjoyable person to host! We would definitely recommend them to other hosts for a great Airbnb experience and would also welcome them as future guests, too. Thanks so much.

Another option for a guest that was nice and friendly.

[Guest Name] was an excellent guest! They were super clean, and we had a great time hosting them. They left our property in good condition. We would recommend them to future hosts without hesitation. Thanks so much for staying with us!

The Bad

You set the proper expectations—but your guests demanded the sun and the moon. Or they never read your house rules and left chaos in their wake. Or they were simply oblivious to their bad behavior (often the hardest review of all!).

We hope we never have to write bad reviews, but it’s bound to happen to every host at some point. When it does, remember to be professional. That might be hard—especially if a guest blatantly disrespected your rental—but losing your cool only hurts your credibility.

Here’s what we suggest for problem Airbnb guest reviews:

  1. Be diplomatic. Be straightforward but keep your emotions in check. Something along the lines of “a hotel would have been better suited for X” makes your point while remaining even-keeled.
  2. Be clear, but avoid laundry listing. If guests did damage or caused big issues, you should absolutely mention it in your guest reviews. But avoid creating a dramatic roll call of every slight they made against you. Something along the lines of “our housekeeper had to spend far more time at this rental than usual after checkout” is more effective than “X left dishes in the sink, candy wrappers on the floor, and dirty towels in every room of the house.”
  3. Take the proper steps beyond reviewing. If you suspect your guest will also leave you a negative review, be prepared to respond professionally. And if their behavior was cause for compensation, that’s something to take up with Airbnb or your insurance. Not something to hash out in your guest reviews.

Examples Of Reviews For Great Guests on Airbnb

Sadly, we had issues with [guest name]. They broke things and were very messy, which made hosting them very unpleasant. We would not recommend them to anyone and strongly advise against letting them stay in your property.

An example when a guest is a problem

This guest did not follow our clearly communicated house rules and was overall very disruptive. We would not recommend them to anyone looking for a peaceful and enjoyable guest to host.

If a guest were to break house rules and cause problems for you

I’m sad to write that we had issues with [guest name]. This guest checked out too late and ended up disrupting our cleaning schedule for the day. We would not recommend them to anyone looking for a punctual and considerate guest to host in the future.

The In-Between

For most hosts, a vast many of guests will be right in the middle. They’ll follow your rules for the most part, maintain respectful communication, and be in and out of your rental without much incident.

And that makes your job a little easier. But how do you write unique reviews for each guest when you’re hosting dozens and dozens of guests a year?

Here’s what we suggest for average Airbnb guest reviews:

  1. Don’t call on the muses. While these reviews should be professional, don’t give in to the pressure to make them perfect. A decent review that’s done is better than one that you’ll never get around to perfecting and posting.
  2. Focus on something tangible. Every guest will have at least one quality worth mentioning—even if it’s that they breezed in and breezed out with no issue. Call it out in your review.
  3. Skew it accordingly. Maybe a guest is in-between, but tipping a little more towards one side of the scale. Take a cue from the good and bad guest advice accordingly. For good-leaning guests, extend a welcome for future stays. For borderline problem guests, briefly and diplomatically mention the biggest issue.

Examples Of Reviews For "In-Between" Guests on Airbnb

We wanted to have a great experience hosting [guest name], but we didn’t quite get there. They had some issues following our house rules. We would want to have better communication in the future if we were to host them again. We do recommend them to other hosts who have aligned expectations.

Just an OK guest with some issues

This guest didn’t communicate well and it caused a few friction points during their stay, but they were overall a guest we’d welcome back. We would encourage the guest to make sure they’re following any house rules for future stays.

A guest who had some issues overall but you would host again

We wanted to have a great experience hosting [guest name], but sadly the guest broke something in our property and was careless with our property. We do understand mistakes happen and would host this guest again if they agreed to be a touch more careful with our property.
