Cardiac function should be monitored until complete stabilization has been achieved
Pralidoxime chloride (a cholinesterase reactivator) may be given intravenously at the rate of 50 to 100 mg per minute; usually the total dose does not exceed 1000 mg. Extreme caution should be exercised in the use of pralidoxime chloride when the cholinergic symptoms are induced by double-bond phosphorous anticholinesterase drugs. 9 If convulsions occur or shock is present, appropriate measures should be instituted. What drug must be available when edrophonium is administered?Because edrophonium may precipitate a cholinergic crisis (e.g., bradycardia, hypotension, vomiting, bronchospasm), atropine and resuscitation equipment should be available.
Why is atropine given before edrophonium?Edrophonium is used to help the muscles work again after surgery. Atropine avoids the side effects of edrophonium, such as a slow heartbeat.
What is the antidote for Tensilon? The test is always performed having atropine close by, an antidote for Tensilon®.
What kind of inhibitor is edrophonium?Edrophonium is a cholinesterase inhibitor used to diagnose and evaluate myasthenia gravis. A rapid-onset, short-acting cholinesterase inhibitor used in cardiac arrhythmias and in the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. It has also been used as an antidote to curare principles.
