Last revision on April 6, 2022 I've been running a laptop setup in my home office, using my work-provided 2017 MBA and a 1440 monitor. It's fine, but not awesome, and I'm trying to invest in something more permanent and powerful, on a budget (of course). Would a 2013 27" 3.4GHz iMac with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD last me a while? How much should I be willing to pay for it? Thanks in advance for your help! Other budget-friendly ideas to improve my setup are welcome.
I am going to try and sell my iMac before sending it in to Apple for trade in. I bought a M1 Mac Mini. Apple offered $150. It will come with the Magic Keyboard/mouse and has a 1TB HDD. The rest of the specs are in the photo. How much should I ask? Screen Shot 2020-12-28 at 6.06.07 PM.png 154 KB · Views: 191
While I would prefer to see Macs get repurpose by selling them to someone that would use them, or even giving them away to someone in need, I think Apple's trade-in offer for your Late 2013 iMac isn't bad, and logically, I would probably consider doing that instead of trying to sell. I am going to try and sell my iMac before sending it in to Apple for trade in. IIRC, Apple's Mac trade-in values tend to work out in favor for the base models, as I don't think they take in account BTO options and such. Either that, or they do not increase the trade-in value as much. I could be wrong about that, maybe someone else could chime in about Mac trade-in values. It totally depends on how you plan on selling it and how quickly you would like to make a sale. I like to use ebay as a general guide.
I agree with vertical smile
Thank you for the replies. I figured the trade in was fair and easier. I will still to sell the computer locally (Virginia Beach) before my trade in time is up. I am still waiting to receive the trade in kit.

I have had to many issues selling things on Ebay to ever sell anything again. Lately it seems on electronics and such you have a much higher chance of them filing false claims of not as described in hopes of either getting some money back, a total refund, etc. Ebay 99.9% of the time will side with the buyer and leave the seller out in the cold. Is an iMac from 2013 still good?A 2013 iMac is not obsolete. Its not even considered out of support yet. It will continue to receive security updates to Catalina for at least to 2 more years, at which point it will be 10 years old which would be a good time to consider a new one. A 2013 iMac is not compatible with Big Sur.
How much does an old iMac sell for?If you have an working Mac 128k you can probably get $1000 on eBay. For a Mac Plus in a carry bag, don't expect more than $100. If you have the original packaging that can increase the value. You can often get more money for old Macs – if they aren't rare models – by breaking them down and selling them for parts.
Is it worth buying a 2013 iMac in 2022?Wanting to sell this and my 2014 Macbook Pro and get a newer Macbook Pro. Yes, worth it. It still has pretty fast WIFI, so internet speeds won't go too slow. The OS won't be updated, but it is an intel chip machine, and you can install any number of Linux OS on it as a result.
CAN 2013 iMac be upgraded?A 2013 iMac can upgrade to the newer OS's like macOS Mojave 10.14 or macOS Catalina 10.15, I would recommend you upgrade to macOS High Sierra 10.13 first. Go to the Download OS section and click on the OS you want to install. Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.
