The S&P/TSX Composite index was 1% higher at the 20,100 mark on Tuesday, paring losses from the prior session and hovering close to levels not seen since the end of August, carried by tech and growth stocks as investors assessed a batch of economic data for hints on the outlook of monetary policy in North America. Tech shares tracked the rally for the Nasdaq and soared nearly 4% on average in Toronto, supported by hopes of slower tightening by the Fed after US PPI figures surprised to the downside. Banks were also in the green, more than offsetting losses in the prior session to trade at two-month highs.
